Rites for Miller woman held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Inez T. Hestad of Miller were held Saturday afternoon at Calvary Lutheran church in Crystal Lake.

Mrs. Hestad died Thursday at a Mason City hospital at the age of 69.

The Rev. John Gartley and the Rev. Kenneth Helmke officiated at the services. Mrs. Vance Ambroson was soloist and Mrs. James Larson served as organist.

Casket bearers were Eugene Baker, Ronald Brozik, Roger Christensen, Roger Hall, Russell Hauan and Ronald Ryerson. Interment was at Madison township cemetery with the Olson-Petersen Funeral Home of Forest City, in charge of arrangements.

Inez T. Hestad was born in Winnebago county on May 30, 1907, the daughter of Thomas and Gunhild Knutson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran church and attended rural school in Center township.

On April 5, 1930, she married Hjalmer Hestad at Winnebago Lutheran church. The couple established their first home on a farm near Thompson, later farming in the Crystal Lake, Lake Mills and Hayfield communities. They moved to a home in Miller in 1967.

Mr. Hestad died on July 13, 1968, and in 1969, Mrs. Hestad began working at the Happy Arc Center in Garner until February of last year.

Mrs. Hestad is survived by her two children, Mrs. lone Curtis of Marshalltown and Robert Hestad of rural Garner. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three brothers; Arthur and Russell Knutson, both of Lake Mills, and Telford Knutson of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Clifford and Sam.
