Services for John Himmel, 60, of Richland, Missouri, who died Sunday, March 6, 1988 at this home in Richland, Missouri, were held 10 a.m., Thursday, March 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner with Rev. Reynold B. Petersen as officiant.

Music was provided by Mrs. Roland Boehnke, organist. Ushers were Ed Furness and Arlo Woiwood.

Casket bearers were family members.

Burial was with Cataldo Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

John Joseph Himmel, the son of John Joseph and Helen M. nee, Suhr (Annello) Himmel was born April 26, 1927 in Cook County, IL. He attended school in Chicago. During W.W. II, he served his country from May 9, 1944 to June 7, 1946 in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater as a Fireman aboard the USS Pioneer and the USS Competent.

From 1950, until he retired in June of 1986 he owned and operated a household moving van. He drove for Lyon Moving & Storage, Republic Van Lines and Atlas Van Lines.

June 12, 1976, he married Margaret Boehnke in Las Vegas, NV. John had resided in Chicago, Los Angeles and since 1981 in Richland, Missouri.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #240 of Richland, Mo., the V.F.W. of Wheeling, IL and Moose Lodge #3 of Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Richland, Mo.; his step-daugther, Mrs. Connie Clyde of Palmdale, CA; 2 step-grandchildren; his sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Carlson of Okeechobee, FL and Mrs. Bette VanderVeen of Rockford, MI; and 4 brothers, Karl and his wife, Norma, of Hammond, IN, Paul and his wife, Bonnie, of Roselle, IL, Charles and his wife, Mary, of Grand Rapids, MI; of Auburn, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Himmel; his mother, Mrs. Helen Annello; and his stepfather, Joseph Annello.
