Donald Butz Services Held Monday Morning

The funeral rites were held for 68 year old Donald Franklin Butz, who passed away Thursday, June 10. Rev. William N. Holzer officiated at the services conducted at St, Boniface Catholic Church, Monday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

Serving as organist was Mrs. Dean Cataldo, Mass servers included Jeff Ptacek, Steve Kral, and Daniel Kadrlik. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Bob Kral.

Pallbearers were: Jack Butz, Randy Schleusner, Gary Schleusner, Duane Hess, Jim Schleusner, and Bob Hopi.

Born in Meservey, Iowa, May 27, 1908, Donald was the son of William F. and Christina Butz. He moved to the Garner area in 1932 and started the Butz Hatchery and Feed Company.

On October 23, 1935 he was married to Ruth Schleusner. For 25 years the couple owned and operated the Butz D-X Service and Cafe, located at the intersection of Highways 18 and 69.

He served as temporary Postmaster during 1961 and worked several seasons with two other men, doing carpentry and construction work.

Hunting and fishing were Don's favorite sports and during early retirement he and Ruth often wintered in southern areas of the United States.

Surviving Don is his wife, Ruth, also one son, Tom and his wife, Beverly, and two grandsons, all of Wabasso, Minnesota; a sister, Irene of Garner, two brothers, Vern of Garner and Lloyd Butz of Independence, Missouri.

Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
