Death Of Charles D. Hall

Charles D. Hall, 47 years old died at the home of his brother John, 1921 North Carolina avenue, Mason City. June 13, 1921.

He was born on a farm three miles east of Garner, April 7, 1873. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Hall. Up to twelve years ago he was a farmer in this vicinity where he still has a host of warm friends.

Following his residence here Mr. Hall spent a year to Mason City, going from there to Vernon county, Mo., after which time he went to New Mexico, working as a carpenter during the five years of his residence. Failing health three years ago wakened longings for his Iowa home. He made the journey in his machine. Traveling over the mountains proved a severe experience, in his weakened condition and only a strong determination and his great desire to get back to Iowa sustained him in the effort. One time when the snow was too heavy for his car, a kind ranchman helped him through and for this. Charlie's gratitude was great, At times his strength would permit him to go but a few miles without rest, but Iowa was his choice for his last resting place.

Mr. Hall was confined to his bed from Feb. 20 to the day of his passing. During all this time, he found a haven of rest, first in the home of his brother Harry and later in the home of his brother John, both of whom live in Mason City. In March his mother Mrs. Hannah Hall made the journey from Seattle that she might minister to this her oldest son.

Charlie leaves to his friends the memory of his sunny disposition, a generous nature and a helpful spirit. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hannah Hall, and the following brothers and sisters: John M. and Harry of Mason City, Frank of Arizona, and Tom, Mrs. Hattie Burns of New York, Gertrude Hall and Mrs. Nellie Nachlens of Seattle.

The funeral was held at the home of John M. Hall, of Mason City with Rev. Kearns of the First Presbyterian church officiating. The funeral party brought his remains to Garner where they were joined by the Woodmen and other friends when burial was made in Concord cemetery.

The family expresses thanks for the floral offerings and kindly helpfulness of the Woodmen and other friends.
