Services Held For George Burton

Services for Geo. Burton Owen, 88, of Garner, who died at the Concord Manor Nursing Home in Garner were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Father Wm. N. Holzer as celebrant.

Mass servers were: Steve Kral, Dan Kadrlik and Blaine Bell. Mrs. Carolyn Kumsher, organist, accompanied the choir. Ushers were Rudy Fritsch and Pete Goodnature.

Casketbearers were: Randy Palmer, Larry White, Ron Davidson, Byron DeFord, Lawrence Engstler and Duane Josten. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Parish rosary was held Friday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel.

Geo. Burton Owen, the son of Wm. and Mary (Wagle) Owen, was born January 4, 1890, at Galesburg, Ill. He attended school at Macomb, Ill., until moving to Lehigh, Iowa, where he worked for the Lehigh Clay & Tile Co. At Lehigh, he married Mabel Isma who later died. He moved to Garner and married Margaret Agnes Engstler, April 9, 1917. They lived in Garner all of their 62 years of married life. George also served in the Iowa National Guard from 1915-1917.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mary Jane) Palmer of Helena, Montana, and Mrs. Bud (Georgia) Molander of Garner; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel and his parents.
