Services for Mrs. Marie Orthel, 92, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Titonka, who died Thursday, March 17, 1988 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, were held 10 a.m., Monday, March 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woden with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Stecher as celebrant. Paul Wellik served as lector.

Mr. Francis Harrington, organist, accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Hanford Brock and Paul Wellik.

Casket bearers were John Quinn, Tom Orthel, Dick Gerdis, Harry Schutter, Sheldon Bengtson and John Kurtzleben.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery south of Woden. Visitation and rosaries by the C.D of A. from Britt and Sacred Heart Catholic Church were held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden.

Mrs. Marie Eugenia Orthel, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Canty) Quinn, was born December 10, 1895 on a farm south of Woden. After graduating from Britt High School she received her teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She moved to Ames, where she taught English in the Junior High and was librarian at Ames High School.

July 22, 1931, she was married to Henry James Orthel at Britt. In 1939, they sold the "General Store" they had owned and operated in Woden and began farming near Titonka, until 1958, when they retired and moved into Titonka. The past five years, she resided at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.

She was a member of sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woden, Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, the C.D. of A. from Britt, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Titonka Woman's Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Faris of Middletown, OH; her son, William Orthel and his wife, Virginia, of Titonka; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, December 7, 1979; a grand-daughter, Caroline Orthel; her parents and her brother, Harry Quinn.
