Services for Spencer L. Ollenburg, 60, of Garner, who died Wednesday, Nov 20, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, were held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Clyde Kieschnick as officiant.

Mrs. Ellen Kieschnick, organist, accompanied soloist, Doug Hayes. Ushers were Fred Weiss and George Doble.

Casket bearers were Scott Ollenburg, Dan Ollenburg, Gary Schisel, Elling Lee Schisel, Norm Lunning and George Woelke.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel at 160 E. 4th St. in Garner.

Spencer Lynn Ollenburg, the son of Herbert Luther and Ruth Magdalen (Boehnke) Ollenburg was born July 22, 1936 at Mason City. After graduating from Garner High School in 1954, he attended college at Iowa State University at Ames. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 1956, he began working at Hancock County National Bank where he served as president from 1977-90. He completed a course of instruction from the graduate school of banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI.

April 14, 1963, he married Dorothea Ruth Steege at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. They made their home and raised their family in Garner. Spencer enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and playing cribbage.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served as chairman of the congregation, deacon, treasurer, on the church council, sang in the choir and belonged to the Bible study class. He was a former member and past-president of the Garner Lion's Club. He had belonged to the American Banker's Association, the Iowa Banker's Association, the Adult & Children With Learning Disabilities and the Garner Chamber of Commerce.

He had been treasurer of the Garner-Hayfield Community Schools, served as Concord Township Clerk for many years, served on the board of directors of Duncan Heights and was a current director of Hancock County Bank & Trust, since April 4, 1969.

He is survived by three children, Herbert Andrew Ollenburg and his wife, Linda, and their daughter, Katie, all of Rochester, MN, Amy Ruth Hansen and her husband, Michael, and their two children, Benjamin and Carly, all of Aberdeen, SD and Susanne Lynn Johnson and her husband, Mark, and their son, Zachary, all of Lee's Summit, MO; his mother, Ruth M. Ollenburg of Garner; and a sister, Sylvia Ann Swale and her husband, Dr. Ralph Swale of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert L. Ollenburg, November 26, 1987.
