Betty Thompson

Britt - Betty Thompson, 81, of Britt passed away Monday (July 25, 2005) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services for Betty Thompson will be held 10:30 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt

Friends greeted the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, 178 Center St. W. in Britt, and will again one hour prior to services at the church.

Betty, the daughter of Cecil and Lauretta Smith Hildebrand, was born July 19, 1924, in Britt. She grew up in Britt and received her education in the Britt Community School and graduated from Britt High School. She then attended Britt Junior College.

On May 28, 1943, Betty married Roland Thompson in San Diego, Calif. The couple farmed most of their married lives in the Britt and Corwith areas. Following retirement in 1979, they moved into Britt.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping and talking on the phone with her sisters. She enjoyed wintering in Texas from 1976 until 1998. She also enjoyed golfing with her friends from Corwith.

Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Rebekah Lodge, the Ever Ready Club, which her mother helped organize, and a birthday club in the Corwith area.

Betty is survived by three children: Jim and his fiancee, Ruby, of Britt, Ron and his wife, Shirley, of Spirit Lake, and Cindy Hejlik and her husband, Larry, of Slinger, Wis.; grandchildren, Rob Thompson and his wife, Angela, Doug Thompson and his wife, Samia, Christie Carlo and her husband, Tim, Stephanie Thompson Diggman, Jennifer Gjerde and her husband, Jeff, Matt Thompson and his wife, Sarah, Jeff Thompson, Jason Hejlik and his wife, Jamie, Carrie Naber and her husband, Steve, and Jenna, Ashley, and Lucas Hejlik; great-grandchildren, Ava Thompson, Marissa, Jacob and Jackson Gjerde, Jake Hejlik, and Jonathan and Emily Carlo; sisters, Edna Mozack of Britt, Yvonne Geving and her husband, Burnell, of Mason City, Sandy Jennings and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; brother, Lee Hildebrand (passed away July 26, 2005) and his wife, Carol, of Sun City, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland, in 1997; and her sister, Joy Smith.
