Services for Richard "Bud" Brouwer, 80, Garner, who died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City, were held Thursday, Feb. 13, 1:30 p.m., at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with Rev. Robert Grossmann as officiant.

Connie Greiman, organist, accompanied Tom Renner, soloist. Ushers were Bill Katter, Emil Broers, Kim Larson and Grant Anderson.

Honorary casket bearers were Eugene and Doris Greimann, Curtis and Ruth Greimann, Herbert and Jean Pearson, Ed and Eileen Malek, Robert and Beverly McCormick, Elmer and Lois Hueneman, Jim and Ruth Fosnaugh, Rev. Chester and Grace Ploeger, Carol McClemons, Nurses and N.I.M.H.C. Dialysis Center and the congregation of Peace Reformed Church.

Active bearers were Clayton Greiman, Robert Anderson, Duane Brouwer, Harley Barz, Dale R. Holt, Don Hoppel, Robert Bean and Joe McGuire.

Burial was at Peace Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Richard "Bud" Milo Brouwer, the son of Ralph Johanus and Ida (Schlawin) Brouwer, was born May 29, 1916, on a farm east of Garner. He was confirmed at Peace Reformed Church. After his mother's death in 1923, he lived and worked with Ben V. and Iris Greiman. He attended the rural schools of Liberty Township and Garner Community Schools.

February 24, 1938, he married Alma F. Jacobsen south of Garner. They farmed southwest of Garner until 1980 when they retired from active farming. They have continued living on the home farm. Bud loved and spent much time with his family, which came first in his life. He was a softball player and enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He was a life-long member of Peace Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He had been a 4-H leader for the Liberty Go-Getters and also a member of the Garner Lions Club where he sang in the Lions Quartet.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Brouwer of Garner; two sons, Michael Brouwer and his wife, Kay of Burlington, and their two children, Mark Brouwer and Beth Rashid and her husband, Mike, and James Brouwer and his wife, Cherry of Bemidji, MN, and their son, Andrew Brouwer; three sisters, Iris Greiman of Garner, Mabel Barz of Klemme and Meta Roper of Thousand Oaks, CA; and a sister-in-law, Inez Brouwer of Thornton.

He was preceded in death by his mother, December 6, 1923; his father, February 28, 1963; and seven brothers and sisters, Elmer Brouwer, Arthur Brouwer, Raymond Brouwer, Clifford Brouwer, Clarence Brouwer, Esther Holt and Helen Brouwer.
