Clifford E. Kiefer, 90

Clifford Eugene Kiefer, 90, of Chester, died Tuesday (June 5, 2007) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Full military honors were conducted by Clear Lake V.F.W. at the funeral home. Inurnment was at Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation was held Friday at Ward Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.

Memorials may be directed to Clifford E. Kiefer Memorial Fund in care of Linda Pate 1306 10th Ave North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Clifford was born June 24, 1916, in Ellington Township in Hancock County, Iowa, to Hazel (Hurd) and Valentine Kiefer, the 4th of nine children. He served in WWII as an Army Paratrooper in the Pacific, and was honorably discharged. Clifford married Jewel Bundy on December 3, 1946. He was a farmer for nearly 30 years, near Kensett, Forest City and Chester. He briefly worked as an iron worker at John Deere Tractor, Waterloo.

During retirement, Cliff was an avid gardener, enjoyed family gatherings, and was a member of the Lime Springs VFW Post 4561.

Clifford is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jewel of Chester, son Gary (Dianne) of Ottumwa, daughter Linda (Jesse) Pate of Clear Lake, and son Doug of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother Robert, of Clear Lake; sister, Francis (Robert) Adams, of Forest City; five grandchildren: Kristi (Jeff Reininga) Kiefer, Brad Kiefer, Nichole Kiefer, Hollie (Dean) Mosher, and Jeff Pate; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Mosher, and Madison, Kaylee, and Hayden Reininga; and several nieces and nephews.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, son Jay Eugene, sisters Verna Drake, Ruth Irvin, Wanda Johnson, and brothers Charles, Don and Shirley.

Ward Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
