Services for Helen Pollock, 91, of Garner, who died Thursday, February 20, 1997, at Concord Care Center in Garner were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Rev. Willis Nicholson as officiant.

Mrs. Gerald Pedersen, organist, accompanied Bree Pedersen, soloist. Eldon Pearson served as an usher.

Honorary bearers were Jan Misel, Teresa Henschen and Sheila Isaacson.

Active bearers were Brad Henschen, Christopher Misel, David Isaacson, Benjamin Pollock, Alexander Pollock, Zachary Pollock, Carl Henschen, Don Quintus and Bill Katter. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Helen Pauline Pollock, the daughter of Joseph and Rosa (Prohaska) Horecka, was born June 23, 1905, on a farm near Hayfield. She attended the rural schools of Hancock County and then graduated from Garner High School in 1924. After teaching in the rural schools in the Garner area, Helen attended a beauty school in Mason City. She worked in a beauty shop in Mason City and then opened her own shop in Garner.

May 5, 1934, she married Halbert H. Pollock in the Presbyterian Church in Woden. They lived in Garner the rest of their lives. In December of 1990, she moved to Prairie View Apartments and in September of 1995 to Concord Care Center in Garner. She enjoyed her family, friends, knitting and playing bridge.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, U.P.W. and served on The Prairie View Board.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Henschen and her husband, Norman, of Klemme and their children, Brad Henschen and his wife, Teresa, Jan Misel and her husband, Christopher and Sheila Isaacson and her husband, David; her son, Larry Pollock of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and his three sons, Benjamin Pollock, Alexander Pollock and Zachary Pollock; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, lone Horecka of Jacksonville, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert Pollock, August 2, 1977; a grandson, Joshua Pollock; her parents; and five brothers, Ed Horecka, Fred Horecka, Ralph Horecka, Harry Horecka and George Horecka.
