Catherine Ross, 79, of Garner, who died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, in Mason City, will be held 5:30 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant. There will be no visitation. Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Rosecrans Ross, the daughter of Clarence E. "Slim" and Gladys G. (Rosecrans) Barnes, was born April 27, 1917, at Garner. After graduating from Garner High School in 1934, she attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Catherine lived in Garner all of her life, with the exception of eight years, when she lived in Baltimore, MD. While in Baltimore, she worked for the Social Security Administration for five years.

She married Arthur A. Ross on April 19, 1941, at Dundalk, MD. In 1945, they returned to Garner. Two children were born to this union, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ross and Harry "Barney" Ross. Catherine loved music and enjoyed her connection with the Sweet Adelines.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, taught C.C.D. classes for four years and sang in the choir for many years. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 50 years and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Homemaker's Club, Past Grand Regents Club and several bridge clubs.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Staley and her husband, Terry of Des Moines; her son, Harry "Barnes" Ross and his wife, Marjorie of Garner; seven grandchildren, Michael Staley and his wife, Roxanne, Sheryl Staley, Randy Boehmer and his wife, Christy, Shawn Ross and his wife, Stacey, Annette Ross, Robin Ross O'Hara and her husband, Steve and Jesse Ross; nine great-grandchildren, Cody Staley, Austin Staley, Amber Staley, Sierra Ross, Tamara O'Hara, Angela O'Hara, Carisa Catherine Boehmer, Kole Ross and Brandon Ross; a sister, Elizabeth L. Yurigan and her husband, Adam; three nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ambrose Ross, February 14, 1981; and her parents, Clarence and Gladys Barnes.
