1908-2000

Raymond H. Radloff of Garner died Friday, July 14, 2000 at Concord Care Center, Garner. He was 91.

Funeral services for Mr. Radloff were held Tuesday, July 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Clyde Kieschnick and the Rev. Robert Bronson officiated. Music was provided by organist Beverly Cataldo, who accompanied soloists Doug Hayes and congregational hymns. Ushers were Fred Weiss and Alvin "Pete" Hansen.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Heinrich Radloff, the son of Frederick Sr. and Minnie (Behrens) Radloff, was born Oct. 21, 1908 at Elkader and was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Postville. In 1914, the family moved to Klemme where he attended Ell Township rural schools. From 1935 to 1954 he worked as a tank wagon agent for the Hancock County Oil Co.

Ray Radloff and Anna Pueggel of Clear Lake were married on May 29, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church, northeast of Garner. The couple built the R-Motel in Garner, which they operated for four years. Mr. Radloff also sold seed corn for Pioneer Seed Co. until 1976. Due to ill health, he moved to Concord Care Center in May of 1999.

A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1973, member Radloff served as a deacon, as a member of the church board and the choir. He was a past president and a member of the Garner Lions Club since 1946. He served on the Garner City Council for three terms. In 1967, Mr. Radloff was appointed Hancock County Civil Defense Director, a position he held for 17 years, retiring with a lifetime membership.

He enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, golfing, fishing and other sports.

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of Garner; a son, Dr. Roger Radloff, and his wife, Gertraud, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Nancy Walter, and her husband, Gene, of Golden. Colo.; four grandchildren, Stefan Radloff, Dr. Monika Radloff, Amanda Hammer and her husband, Jay, and James Brewer, and his wife, Susan, and their son, Carter.

Also surviving are a sister, Gertrude Meyer of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Radloff of Garner; two step grandchildren, Mark Walter and Lisa Walter; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Radloff was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred, Laurence and Harold Radloff; and three sisters, Ruth Radloff, Frieda Radloff, and Ruby Quintus.
