Services for Joseph J. Benesh, 86, of Garner, who died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at his home northwest of Garner were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt, with the Rev. James Mattson officiating.

Music was provided by Beverly Cataldo.

Casket bearers were Robert Nedved, Robert Hestad, Gary Rayhons, Lewis Nedved Jr., Scott Rayhons and Mike Randall.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with graveside military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation was held Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner.

Joseph James Benesh, the son of James "Jim" and Mary (Vavrina) Benesh, was born January 18, 1911 in Chicago, IL. He was baptized into the Christian faith. When he was two years old, the family moved from Chicago to the Hayfield area. After attending the rural schools and
graduating from high school at Hayfield, he farmed with his parents. In July of 1929, he graduated from the National Radio Institute of Washington, D.C. with a radio technician's certificate. He served his country in the U.S. Army, being stationed at Camp Claiborne in Louisiana. After the service, he returned to Hayfield and continued farming.

July 5, 1969, he married Frances L. Harms at the Little Brown church at Nashua. They made their home on the family farm where they continued to farm through 1996. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. Joe believed that "a man should stand tall and feel pride in the life he lived."

He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Benesh of Garner; a sister, Mary A. Peterson of Forest City; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James "Jim" Benesh, July 26, 1993; and a brother-in-law, Raymond A. Peterson.
