Services for Helen M. Zwald, 82, of Garner, who died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Concord Care Center were held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mary Kopacek who accompanied a congregational hymn and vocal soloist, Jason Heitland, who was accompanied by Kelly Zwald. Ushers were Maynard and Marvin Schoneman.

Casket bearers were Arlene Zwald, Madelyn Naber, Rick Naber, Jerry Zwald, Jeanne Zwald, Linda Ryan and Bill Ryan.

Interment was in Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Helen Marie Zwald, the daughter of Carl T. and Marie C. (Carlson) Franzen, was born March 28, 1917, at Wesley. She graduated from Wesley High School and Britt Junior College. She taught in the country schools of Hancock County and at Hayfield for several years.

August 22, 1943, she married Lloyd Wilson Zwald at the United Methodist Church in Wesley. Helen was actively involved in running the Zwald farm with her husband, Lloyd. In addition to farming, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and playing the piano. She cared deeply for her family and friends.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, and put many hours into numerous church activities.

She is survived by her children, Arlene Zwald of Entiat, WA, Madelyn Naber and her husband, Rick of Marble Falls, TX, Jerry Zwald and his wife, Jeanne of Garner, and Linda Ryan and her, husband, Bill of Muscatine; three granddaughters Regan, Kelly and Libby Zwald, all of Garner; a step-brother, Marlin Torgerson of Mason City; and a step-sister, Adelaide Thompson of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, December 14, 1982; her parents; a brother, Carl Enar Franzen; her step-mother, Anna Hage; a step-brother, Jerry Torgerson; and a step-sister, Kerma Melton.
