E.G. "Shorty" Greiman of Garner died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000 at the Concord Care Center, Garner. He was 97.

Funeral services for Mr. Greiman will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Garner. The Rev. Darrell Weber will officiate. Music will be provided by organist, Margaret Jass, who will accompany soloist Loren Kalkwarf and congregational hymns. Ushers will be Allan DeWitt, Willis Davison and Marvin Diekhuis.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be in the Concord Township Cemetery.

Honorary bearers are Alfred and Edith Mueller and the Garner Rotarians and their spouses.

Edwin George Greiman, the son of George and Nonie (Goll) Greiman, was born Dec. 20, 1902 on a farm south of Garner. He attended school and assisted his father on the farm. He traveled to North English, Iowa in 1923 where he met his wife, Fern Rowe.

On Jan. 22, 1924, Edward Greiman and Fern Rowe were married at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Forest City. The couple made their home in Garner where Mr. Greiman began a full-time water, drainage and sewer contracting operation. He built his own digging machine from parts furnished form the Greiman Ditcher Company. During the next 60 years, Mr. Greiman had contracts in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Florida, South Dakota and Missouri. He also owned and operated the Garner Laundromat.

Mr. Greiman was an active member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Garner Rotary Club and a former member of the Garner Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his children, Betty A. Hughes of Garner, Kermit Greiman and his wife, Arlene, of Garner; six grandchildren, Barbara Noble, Pam Beckham, Charles Hughes, Jeffrey Greiman, Jody Marmaro, and George Greiman; 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Howard Greiman and his wife, Pauline, of Garner; special friends, Alfred and Edith Mueller of Fairbault, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greiman was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, on Sept. 29, 1997; his parents; a son-in-law, George Hughes, on March 10, 1995; a sister, Dena Stille; and three brothers, Marvin, Wilson and Norman Greiman.
