1917-2000

Reno Harms, 83, of Garner died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner. The Rev. Kay Hooper of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Music will be provided by organist, Beverly Cataldo.

Burial will be in the Concord Township Cemetery. Casket bearers will be his six sons, Ernest, Howard, Harley, Duane, George and August Harms.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Reno Harms, the son of Stenus and Grace (Folkerts) Harms, was born Aug. 8, 1917 at Latimer.

On September 19, 1940 he married Ione Doris Tanner at the United Methodist Church in Garner. The couple farmed in the Klemme, Goodell and Garner areas until 1955 when they moved south of Garner.

Mr. Harms was employed at the Garner Sales barn until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on the farm. He attended the United Methodist Church in Garner.

Survivors include eight children: Ernest Harms of Garner, Howard Harms and his wife, Sharon, of Britt, June Harms of Owatonna, Minn., Frances Benesh of Garner, Harley Harms and his wife, Julie, of Garner, Duane Harms of Garner, George Harms of Boone and August Harms and his wife, Janine, of Richland Center, Wis.; a son-in-law, Ronald Monson of Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Taus Harms of Belmond and Herman Harms of Forest City.

Mr. Harms was preceded in death by his wife, lone, on Oct. 16, 1997; a daughter, Grace Monson; his parents; a son-in-law, Joseph Benesh; a granddaughter, Brenda Sue Monson; and 14 brothers and sisters.
