Services Held For Iva [Ina] Belle Smith

Funeral services were held for Ina Smith, 83, at the United Methodist church in Goodell on Sat. Sept. 4. Rev. Dora Campbell and Rev. Don Campbell officiated. Burial was in Amsterdam Cemetery. Andrew-Quesenberry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Matthew (Ina Belle Ahrenkiel) Smith was born to John and Mary Ahrenkiel Sept. 28, 1892, on a farm northeast of Goodell. Before the turn of the century the family moved to Goodell and purchased the general store.

She was married to Matthew Smith, Feb. 21, 1925, and they farmed in the Goodell area a number of years, then moved to Klemme where they had a grocery store on wheels until Mr. Smith's health failed. She and their daughter Ruth moved to Goodell and had the Ahrenkiel grocery a few years.

The Smiths were parents of one daughter, Ruth Marie who married and moved to California. Ina closed out her store here and for 15 years made her home with her daughter's family, the Austin Childs at Pico Rivera, Calif. Four years ago she came to live at Prairie View apartments at Garner and a year later went to the Belmond Nursing home where she passed away Wednesday evening at the age of 83.

Ina was a loyal United Methodist church member, church pianist and a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Mrs. Austin Child, early this year; a stepson, Marvin Smith of Green Mountain; three brothers, Lewis, Walter and Leo, the latter of Salem, Ore.

Survivors are two grandchildren, Carmen and Joseph Child of Pico Rivera, Calif.; one sister, Louise Johnson of Belmond; one stepson, Kermit Smith of Iowa Falls; her son-in-law, Austin Child of Pico Rivera; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Amos Hanson, Kenneth Boller, J. J. Cook, Harold Savogue, Harley Smith and Wayne Smith.
