Charles John Velau, 67

Funeral services for Charles J. Velau, 67, Belmond and former Klemme resident who died July 5 at a Belmond Hospital, were held Wednesday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Rev. Paul Akin officiated.

Music was provided by Mrs. Maxine Jenson, organist, and with a duet by Dona Cleveland and Jenette Followill.

Casket bearers were Virgil Stille, Don Nelson, Leo Smith, Loren Gast, Byrnes Lemke and George Stille. Interment was in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Charles John Velau, the son of John Carl and Mabel Cora Welch Velau was born December 26, 1913 in Hancock County, rural Klemme, Iowa. He was raised in the Klemme area and on March 23, 1952 he was united in marriage to Esther Tiggemann at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

They lived around Klemme until 1964 when they moved to Belmond and made their home at 705 8th Ave. N. E.

Charles in failing health entered the Belmond Community Hospital and died there on Sunday, July 5, 1981 at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 9 days.

He is survived by his wife Esther; one son, Melford of West Haven, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Francis (Betty) Buseman of Garner, Iowa; and one brother, LaVern of Garner, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
