Services for Wilbur T. Smith, 68, of Crystal Lake were held Wednesday, March 30, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake with Rev. Todd Schluter officiating.

Mrs. Jeff Rensink, organist, accompanied soloist, Eloise Haugland. Ushers were Dr. A.R. Cullen and Wilbur Sorenson.

Casket bearers were Maynard Peterson, Orval Jamtgaard, Fred Henken, Walter Kingsbury, Curtis Jumpp and Jim Nelson.

Interment was at Crystal Township Cemetery with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Military graveside services were conducted by the American Legion.

Wilbur Theodore Smith, 68, passed away Sunday, March 27, 1988 at his home in Crystal Lake, Iowa.

Wilbur, the son of Frank and Pearl (Volding) Smith was born October 1, 1919 at Crystal Lake. He attended Crystal Lake Schools and served with the US Navy during World War II.

On April 24, 1945 he was united in marriage to Helen Steuerwald at Albert Lea, Minnesota. For a short time they lived in Mason City, then they moved to Crystal Lake. He worked for the railroad for 17 years and also Winnebago Industries in Forest City until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, Crystal Lake; one daughter, Janice Kunkel and her husband, Larry, Crystal Lake; two sons: Jimmy and his wife, Eunice, Fall River, MA and Denny and his wife, Becky, Hemet, CA; five sisters: Ella Curley, Thompson; Mildred Harley and Arlene Westing, Albany, OR; Evelyn Smith, Britt; and Mabel McAndrew, Riverside, CA; three brothers: Milton, Britt; Laverne, Mason City, and Arlan, Lebanon, OR; and six grandchildren.
