Helen Smith

Helen L. Smith, 72, passed away Friday, March 4, 1994 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, in Mason City, Iowa.

Services were held Monday, March 7, 1994 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Suetterlin officiating. Music was provided by organist, Mabel Rensink who accompanied soloist, Bruce Wubben. Ushers were Dale Haugland and Wilbur Peterson.

Casketbearers were Jerry Smith, LeRoy Smith, Jim Kadlecik, Truman Kiefer, Duane Pigman and Dave Michel.

Interment was in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake, Iowa. Services were under the direction of Ewing Funeral Home.

Helen, the daughter of Chester and Leath Rader Steuerwald was born July 6, 1921, at Boone, Iowa. She moved with her family to Fertile. She received her education in the Ventura Schools.

She was united in marriage to Wilbur Smith on April 24, 1945, at Albert Lea, MN. For a short time the couple lived in Mason City, then they moved to Crystal Lake where they made their home.

She enjoyed puzzles, yahtzee, cards, and reading the Bible. Helen loved to read it from cover to cover.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice and her husband, Larry Kunkel, Crystal Lake, Iowa; two sons, Dennis and his wife, Becky Smith, Colorado Springs, CO.; Jimmy and his wife, Eunice Smith, Fall River, MA; three sisters, Ruth Smith, Mason City, Iowa; Gertrude Kiefer, Kanawha, Iowa; Norma Redmond, Mason City, Iowa; three brothers: Darrell and his wife Bev Steuerwald, Columbia, MO; Arthur and his wife, Jo Steuerwald, Knoxville, Iowa; Donnie and his wife, Bev Steuerwald, Carlisle, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilbur, on March 27, 1988 and two brothers.
