Caroline Schaefer rites held

Funeral services for Mrs. Caroline Schaefer of Forest City were held Tuesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. John Hieronymus and the Rev. Ole Winter officiated.

Beryl Buffington was soloist and Norma Boomgarden, organist.

Casket bearers were Brian Schaefer, David Schaefer, Donald Schaefer, Randy Schaefer, Dwayne Hansen and Marvin Wilson. Burial was in Madison township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Schaefer. 83. died Saturday at the Forest City hospital.

Caroline Schaefer, the daughter of Udo and Elizabeth Johnson Smid, was born Jan. 18, 1900, in Danforth, Ill. When she was young, her family moved to Belmond and later to a farm near Klemme.

She was married to Emery W. Schaefer Dec. 30, 1926. The couple farmed near Klemme until moving to their farm near Forest City in 1947. Mr. Schaefer died June 10, 1962.

Mrs. Schaefer continued to live on the farm until 1982 when she lived in the home of her son, Roger. Since May, 1982, she has been hospitalized or resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Survivors include four sons, Donald Schaefer of Bettendorf, Elwyn Schaefer of Guttenberg, Harvey and Roger Schaefer of Forest City; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Geradine) Reighel of Gilman, Ill.; and a brother, Henry Smid of Concord, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, one in infancy, Bernard and Otto, a sister, Jeanette, and a grandson, Mark.
