Rank J. Riekena

Funeral services for Rank J. Riekena of Forest City were conducted Monday morning at Petersen Funeral home. The Rev. Ole Winter, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, officiated.

Mike Jefferies was the soloist and Chalice Riekena Jefferies, the organist.

Harold Ahrends, Morton Hanson, Herbert Heimdal, Robert Pletcher, James Smith and Gail Thayer were casket bearers. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery.

Mr. Riekena, 71, died Friday at the Forest City hospital. He had suffered from cancer for the past several months.

Rank J. Riekena was born July 11, 1912, on a farm near Wellsburg to Joe B. and Gesena Ohden Riekena. In 1921, the family moved to the Woden area where Rank finished his education in the Bingham Township #5 school. He was baptized in the Presbyterian church in Woden.

In 1939, he started farming near Woden and moved to Forest City in 1956 where he did custom farm work for several area farmers. After his retirement in 1974, his interests turned to raising a large garden and fishing.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Roy (Mary) Ausenhus of Hanlontown; four brothers, Wendell, Peter and Clarence Riekena, all of Forest City and John Riekena of Indianola; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Doris Riekena of Dubuque; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ben.
