Services Wednesday for Mrs. Alice Riekena

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Riekena, 89, were held Wednesday at United Methodist church in Forest City with the Rev. B. Gordon Packard officiating.

Mrs. Riekena, a longtime Winnebago county resident, died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Comfort music during the services was provided by Mrs. Robert Goranson and Mrs. James Liverca, who sang a duet, and Mrs. Franklin Bienert, organist.

Casket bearers were Ben, Henry, George, Warren, Edward and G. G. (Dutch) Riekena.

Burial was at Madison township cemetery with the Olson-Petersen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alice Riekena was born in Harden county Sept. 25, 1885, the daughter of Henry and Ettje (Meyer) Geerdes. She received her education in the Harden county rural schools and was married to G. B. Riekena March 16, 1905, in Grundy County.

For a time, the couple farmed near Wellsburg, but moved to a farm west of Woden in 1917. They farmed in the Woden area until moving to Forest City in 1935.

Mrs. Riekena and her husband resided at the Winnebago County Home until after his death. In January of this year, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Riekena is survived by six sons, Ben, Henry, Dutch and Edward of Forest City, Warren of Omaha, Nebr., and George of Lake Isabella, Calif.; one daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. O. W. Foster of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Berends of Steamboat Rock; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, a brother and two grandchildren.
