Services for Rolf B. Rasmuson, 86, of Garner, who died Wednesday at Concord Care Center in Garner were held 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, with Rev. Joyce Sheehan of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and Rev. Jerry Wolcott of the United Methodist Church in Garner as co-officiants.

Mrs. G.W. Templeton, organist, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Rensink, who sang as a duet. Ushers were Wilbur Sorenson and Calvin Sorenson. Casket bearers were Garry Wilson, Jeff Powers, John Hana, Alan Jahnke, G.W. Templeton and James Gatchel. Graveside military rites were conducted at the Crystal Lake Cemetery by the James Rasmussen American Legion Post 409. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Rolf B. Rasmuson, the son of Borrie and Anna (Erickson) Rasmuson was born Feb. 19, 1898 at Aitkin, Minn. After attending school in Aitkin, he graduated from Grand Forks Business College in Grand Forks, Minn. Sept. 12, 1937, he married Helen C. Nelson at Crystal Lake. Prior to his marriage he had worked as an insurance agent.

After their marriage they established their home in Mason City where he continued as an insurance salesman, until Jan. 14, 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country in both the Pacific and Atlantic War Theaters until his discharge in 1947. He purchased the Crystal Lake Furniture Store in 1950 which he and his wife ran until 1958, when their son, Tom, became a partner. In 1976, they moved to Garner where they continued the furniture business.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake until he transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church in Garner three years ago. He received a permanent lifetime membership in the James Rasmussen American Legion Post 409 in recognition of his contributions to the development of the post.

He was one of the original members of the Hancock County Conservation Board on which he served for 17 years. During his tenure, he developed the Ellsworth County Park at Crystal Lake. He had served on the Crystal Lake Town Council for over 20 years and had been a member for over 45 years of the Harding Masonic Lodge in Mason City.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Garner; his son, Rolf Thomas Rasmuson and his wife, Beverly, of Garner; two granddaughters, Carlene and Erin, both of Garner; a sister, Mrs. John (Mollie) Bratrude of Auburn, Wash. and a niece, Mrs. George (Barbara) McPheeters of Auburn, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers in infancy.
