1901-1984

Services for Mrs. Rolf (Helen) Rasmuson, 83, who entered Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on July 16 and died there on Aug. 12, were held at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake on Wednesday, August 15 at 2 p.m.

Officiating at the services were Rev. Joyce Sheehan and Rev. Jerry Wolcott.

Organist was Mrs. Dorothy Templeton with vocal music provided by the duet of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Rensink.

Casket bearers were James Gatchel, John Hana, G.W. Templeton, Dale Groth, Jeffery Powers and Gary Wilson.

Burial was in Crystal Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Helen C. Rasmuson was born in Crystal Lake on Feb. 4, 1901, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Larson) Nelson.

After graduating from Forest City High School and the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, she taught school in Mason City and Ottumwa.

After her marriage to Rolf B. Rasmuson on Sept. 12, 1937 she continued teaching in Lake Mills and Crystal Lake. In 1950, the Rasmusons opened a furniture store in Crystal Lake. In 1976, the store was moved to Garner under the management of their son. In 1977, the couple moved to Garner to make their home.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and the United Methodist Church in Garner.

She is survived by her son, R. Thomas Rasmuson and his wife Beverly and their children Carlene and Erin of Garner; two brothers: James Nelson and his wife Myrtle of Crystal Lake, W.L. Nelson and his wife Peggy of Lakewood, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Clark (Miriam) Bennett of Des Moines and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Nelson of Forest City.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Morton Nelson and her husband, Rolf on March 28, 1984.
