Walter E. Peterson

Walter Edward Peterson, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 1994 at Mercy Health Center in Mason City.

Services were held Saturday, December 17, 1994 at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, Ia. with Rev. Tom Moeri officiating.

Organist, Helen Jongewaard accompanied soloist, Bruce Wubben. Honorary casketbearers were David Peterson and Lindy Peterson.

Casketbearers were Nels Jensen, Eldred Peterson, Neil Peterson, Vernon Hogard, Paul Peterson and Eddie Jensen. Ushers were Merle Muhn and Ron Swanson.

Interment was in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake, Ia. Visitation was held at Ewing Funeral Home.

Walter, the son of Edward and Karen Marie Olsen Peterson, was born in Britt, Iowa on May 29, 1901. Walter was educated in country schools.

He was united in marriage to Tillie Katuin. The couple made their home on a farm south of Crystal Lake. He managed the local telephone company in the 1930's until the 1950's. He built lines and did maintenance for the phone service in the Crystal Lake area. The couple continued farming until 1974. Walter did custom corn shelling and bailing for many of the area farmers. For over 10 years the couple did quilting.

On March 18, 1994, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Walter was a member of the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church.

Walter is survived by his wife, Tillie, one son, James and his wife, Marlene of Britt, one step-daughter, Annie Larson of Buffalo Center, two step-sons, John Baker and his wife, Mary of Mason City, Allen Baker and his wife, Arlene of Forest City, a daughter-in-law, Hazel Peterson of Miller, one brother, Emanuel Peterson of Britt, two sisters, Nina Pearson of Cedar Falls, Myrtle Brown and her husband John of Orlando, Fla., six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Julia; one son, Gilbert, four brothers and two sisters.
