Services for James W. Peebles, 73, of Crystal Lake who died Sept. 9 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, were held Thursday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake with Rev. Susan V. Olsen officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Jim Larson, organist, and soloist Mary Kirch. Ushers were Martin Furst and Bryce Juhl.

Honorary casket bearers were Elmer Ruby, Lucien Swearingen, Albin Anderson and LeRoy Robinson. Active casket bearers were Ralph Juhl, Steve Kadlecik, Fred Heriken, Maynard Johnson, Ronald Hartman and Garry Wilson.

Interment was in Crystal Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake, with graveside military rites conducted by James Rasmussen Legion Post 409.

James Wilbur Peebles, son of Albert Franklin and Margaret (Cline) Peebles, was born Dec. 12, 1910 in Mansfield, Mo. He moved to the Emmetsburg, Ia. area with his family at the age of 7 years. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was united in marriage with Helen Hacker of Jan. 5, 1955 at Rutland. The couple farmed in the Thompson area before moving to Crystal Lake in 1975.

He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Crystal Lake and the Crystal Lake American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Helen; a son, Alan, both of Crystal Lake; 2 sisters: Edith Luhman of Graettinger and Bessie Ruby of Ventura; a sister-in-law, Bernice Peebles of Beverly Hills, Calif, many nieces, nephew and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Esther, Lucy and Verna: and two brothers: Raymond and Lawrence.
