Ruth M. Ollenburg

Garner - Ruth M. Ollenburg, 89, passed away Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick and the Rev. Robert Bronson officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. until the service time Tuesday at the Church. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Madeline Ollenburg, the daughter of Ferdinand F. and Martha (Ziesmer) Boehnke, was born Feb. 1, 1911, northeast of Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner. The family lived on a farm until they moved into Ventura. Ruth attended St. John's Parochial School and the Ventura schools, where she graduated in 1929.

She was employed in the Sterling Store in Garner for one year and at Ted Wolfram's General Store in Ventura until 1933.

On July 2, 1933, she was married to Herbert Luther Ollenburg at St. John's Lutheran Church. They had twins, Spencer and Sylvia, born in 1936.

Ruth enjoyed her family, housekeeping, bowling and the many family and business trips with her husband. Her six grandchildren were her special joy!

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Swale and her husband, Ralph, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Thomas Swale and his fiancee, Sandra, Woodstock, Conn., Steven Swale, Omaha, Neb., Rebecca Cahoon and her husband, John, Iowa City, Herbert Andrew Ollenburg and his wife, Linda, Rochester, Minn., and their children, Katie and Sarah, Amy Hansen and her husband, Mike, Aberdeen, S.D., and their children, Benjamin and Carly, and Sue Johnson and her husband, Mark, LeMars, and their children, Zachary and twins, Drake and Seth; a sister, Martha Jass of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ollenburg, Nov. 26, 1987; a son, Spencer Ollenburg in 1996; her parents; two brothers, Fredinand Boehnke in infancy and Ted Boehnke; and two sisters, Emma Pueggel and Olga Ollenburg.
