Swen Nordaas rites held Wednesday

Funeral services for Swen Nordaas of rural Ventura were held Wednesday afternoon at Zoar Lutheran church in Lake Mills. The Rev. Timothy Vettrus and the Rev. Morris Vold officiated.

Richard Stensrud and the Rev. Mr. Vold were soloists for the services. Mrs. Sydney Endreland was organist. Honorary pall bearers were Arlo Johnson, Paul Lovick, Art Torkelson and John Torkelson.

Casket bearers were Dennis Hagen, Raymond Hagen, Ronald Nedved, Clifford Torkelson, Orrin Torkelson and Donald Westerberg. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery in Forest City with the Petersen Funeral home handling the arrangements.

Mr. Nordaas, 67, died Sunday in a Rochester, Minn. hospital following an illness with heart trouble.

Swen Nordaas was born Nov. 10, 1915, near Stavanger, Norway, to Halvor and Anna Stangeland Nordaas. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Norway and received his education there. In 1937, he came to the United States and settled in Blue Earth, Minn.

March 20, 1949, Nordaas was married to Inga Oswald at the former Ellington Prairie Lutheran church near Miller. The couple started farming near Ventura and moved to their present farm in 1953. From 1970 to 1981, Nordaas was employed in the cylinder department of Iowa Mold Tooling Company in Garner.

He was a member of Zoar Lutheran church in Lake Mills.

Survivors include his wife. Inga of rural Ventura; four children, Harold Nordaas of Fredricksburg, Mrs. Jeffrey (Mavis) Porter of Glencoe, Minn., Arlyn Nordaas of rural Ventura and Jon Nordaas of Forest City; and two grandchildren. Jason and Joshua.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Jarene Haaland of Seattle, Wash., and three brothers, Ingolf Nordaas of Stavanger, Norway, Magnus Nordaas of Blue Earth, Minn., and Haakon Nordaas of Madison Lake, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Olaf, Karl and Ragner.
