Services for Myrtle B. Nelson, 30, of Crystal Lake, who died Wednesday, June 3, 1987 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, were held Saturday, June 6, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake with Rev. Todd Schlitter officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mabel Rensink, and vocalist, Eloise Haugland. Ushers were Donald Cottington and Calvin Sorenson.

Honorary casket bearers were Naomi Larson, Vera Benson, Juanita Earp, Henrietta Kaughin, Esther Foley and Martha Riggle.

Active casket bearers were Curtis Jenson, Paul Smith, Allan Peebles, Richard Larson, Joe Korsa and Russell Helm.

Interment was in the Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake with the Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle, daughter of Mandius and Bertina Hanson Olson, was born September 10, 1906 near Ridgeway. She moved with her mother to the Cresco-Lime Springs area following the death of her father.

On December 12, 1933, Myrtle married James Nelson in Cresco. The couple had since made their home in Crystal Lake where they operated the family Nelson Grocery Store.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Senior Citizens Club all of Crystal Lake.

Her life centered around her family, and she enjoyed her many years of assisting her husband at the store.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Henry, Elmer and Mandius.

She is survived by her husband James; a daughter, Marilyn Bjornsen of Decorah; two sons, James and David, both of Crystal Lake; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a brother Melvin Olson of Cresco.
