Services for Alma A. McFarland, 93, Crystal Lake, who died Friday, Nov. 12, 1993 at the Westview Care Center in Britt where she had been a resident since 1986, were held Tuesday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake with Rev. Ken Suetterlin officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mabel Rensink, and vocalist, Bruce Wubben.

Casket bearers were Keith Lemme, Orville Jamtgaard, Paul Lemme, Walter Kingsbury, John Trager, James Nelson, Kenny Shipley and Wray Hallet.

Burial was at the Crystal Lake Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake, with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Alma Anna McFarland, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Gootlieb Lemme, was born January 5, 1900 at Dubuque. When she was three months old her parents moved to a farm home in Winnebago County that her parents had built. She attended church and Sunday school in a church that was built on one acre of their farm land. She worked in various homes in the community.

October 20, 1920, she married Emmett L. McFarland in Forest City. They moved to Havelock, NE for a year. They then moved to the Crystal Lake community. She worked for 42 years in Nelson's store. She had a picture collection of all who served in World War I and it was on display. She loved to bake and share her bakery goods of bread and rolls with friends of the community. For many years she wrote news items for the Britt News and Forest City Summit.

She was a member of the Crystal Lake Methodist Church, Women's Society and sang in the church choir. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and member of the Senior Citizen Club.

She is survived by her son, Eugene "Pat" McFarland of Liberal, MO; a sister, Sarah Kiesaw of Waukon: special relatives, Maxine and Keith Cottington; special friends. Earl and Louetta Spurling; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett in 1965; seven brothers; and five sisters.
