Services for Henrietta Matson, 89, of Britt who died Saturday, Jan. 22, 1994 at Westview Care Center were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Zion Church of the Nazarene in Britt with Rev. Mitch Sanderson as officiant.

Mrs. Wanda Powers, organist. accompanied Mrs. Sherry Anderson, soloist. Ushers were Don Alphs and Lyle Meyers.

Casket bearers were Myrlen Olsen, Ron Bierma, Harold Schwab, Kenny Shipley, Jack Powers and Sam Storkson.

Burial was in Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Britt.

Henrietta Matson, the daughter of Henry and Rosa (Claussen) Wittgreve, was born April 9. 1904 on a farm near Reinbeck. She attended the rural schools of Grundy County, graduated from Reinbeck High School and then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, where she received her Normal Teaching Certificate. She taught English and home economics for two years at Farson and for eight years at Crystal Lake.

June 2, 1931, she married Alvin A. Matson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed south of Crystal Lake all of their married life. After her husband's death, April 13, 1973, she continued to live on the farm. Due to ill health, she moved to Westview Care Center several years ago.

She was a member of Zion Church of the Nazarene, had served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 15 years and had also been active in the Nazarene World Missionary Society.

She is survived by two sons, Merwyn Matson and his wife. Audrey of Littleton, CO and Rev. Laurel Matson and his wife, Sharon of Madison, WI; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dalma Fogt of Alhambra, CA and Gladys Ragsdale and her husband, Bill of Reinbeck; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. John (Jean) Wittgreve of Reinbeck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Matson; her parents; two brothers, Henry Wittgreve and John Wittgreve; and three sisters, Margaret Watson, Mamie Fogt and Mary May.
