Services for Gertrude M. Matson, 94, of Britt, who died Saturday, May 29, 1993 at Westview Care Center in Britt were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 1993 at the Zion Church of the Nazarene in Britt with Rev. Brandt Freeburg as officiant.

Mrs. Brandt Freeburg was organist. Active bearers were Gertrude's nephews.

Burial was in Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Britt.

Gertrude Mildred Matson was born on May 27, 1898, the daughter of Nels and Anna (Tulin) Matson, who came to the United States from Ingelstorp, Sweden. Gertrude was baptized in infancy and confirmed at a young age.

She received her education in the Crystal Township schools and attended college in University Park near Oskaloosa. She became a Registered Nurse in 1922 and in 1930, received her Degree in Anesthesia from St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago. She successfully practiced her profession in many hospitals in the United States.. namely, Omaha, Iowa City and Minneapolis.

She enjoyed caring for family and friends. Gertrude had a special talent in music which she enjoyed, developed and shared. She was pianist at the Britt Nazarene Church for many years. Working in her flower garden was another hobby in which she took pride.

She was a member of Zion United Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her sister, Phoebe Matson, of Britt; a sister-in-law. Henrietta Matson of Britt and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alvin Matson in 1973; and four sisters, Ida Matson, July 4, 1974, Esther Collins in 1978, Alice Alberta Matson, December 2, 1979 and Bessie Olsen in 1988.
