William Leerar
1908-1996

Services for William "Bill" Leerar, 87, Crystal Lake, who died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, were held Saturday, June 8, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake with Rev. Kenneth Suetterlin officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mabel Rensink, who accompanied the congregational hymns, and soloist, Bruce Wubben. Larry Kunkel was usher.

Casket bearers were Leonard Leerar, Lester Leerar, Dick Leerar, Craig Leerar, Jerry Carlson and Randy Gremmer.

Burial was at the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake, with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of services.

William "Bill" Leerar, the son of Joseph and Tena Sweers Leerar, was born July 7, 1908, in Erin Township. He attended country schools south of Britt. As a young man he worked for several farmers south of Britt. He started farming on his own in the early 1930's.

January 29, 1936, he married Ann Davids at Waterloo. They established their home on a farm in Erin Township. In 1944, they purchased a farm southwest of Crystal Lake. They remained on the farm until their retirement in 1972 when they moved into Crystal Lake.

He served on the Crystal Lake School Board, Crystal Lake Creamery Board, held numerous offices in the United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, where he also taught adult Sunday School. He enjoyed traveling, reading, working the soil and making things. He was an aircraft pilot.

He is survived by four children, Raymond and his wife, Beverly of Alsip, IL, Marvin and his wife. Catherine of Clifton, VA, Roger and his wife, Marilyn of Britt, and Kathryn of Wauwatosa. WI; two brothers, Jake and Fred, both of Kanawha; two sisters, Esther Monson of Mason City, and Caroline Slagle of Missoula, MT; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann on January 8, 1996; three brothers; and two sisters.
