Services for Lon Johnson, 26, of Hayfield, who died March 13, 1987 at Hayfield, were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16 at the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Dennis Schlicht officiating.

Music was provided by the congregation accompanied by Mrs. Kingsley Johnson, organist.

Casketbearers were Bruce Johnson, Clarence Kitner, Randy Formanek, Mark Mary, Mark McAloon, Lee Meleney and Arlyn Nedved.

Interment was in the Crystal Cemetery in Crystal Lake with Petersen funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lon L. Johnson was born in Britt on February 24, 1961, the son of Roger and Janice (Farrell) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest City and attended the Garner-Hayfield Community Schools, graduating in 1979. While in school he participated in the band, track and basketball. He had worked in a grocery store in Garner, for Hayfield Industries in Hayfield and Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

While in high school Lon developed a severe mental disorder. He had recently received treatment at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee and was presently living at the North Iowa Transition Center in Mason City. On Friday, March 13, he had returned with his parents to spend the weekend with them at their home in Hayfield. Shortly after arriving, he went to his room and took his life.

Lon is survived by his parents, Roger and Janice Johnson of Hayfield; two brothers. Arlyn of Forest City and Joel of Des Moines and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Farrell of Crystal Lake. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johnson, three uncles and one aunt.
