Alma T. Janssen

Funeral services for Alma Thressa Janssen were held on Wednesday, August 18, 1993, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Ken Suetterlin.

Organist Mabel Rensik accompanied soloist Bruce Wubben as he sang "My God and I" and the congregation for the hymns "How Great Thou Art"and "I Love to Tell the Story."

Casketbearers were Larry Larson, Wilbur Peterson, Doc A.R. Cullem, Keith Cottington, Dean Crone, and Ken Sorenson.

Interment was made in the Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake, Iowa. The services were under the direction of the Ewing Funeral Home.

Alma T. Janssen, 84, passed away Sunday, August 15, 1993 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Alma, the daughter of Anfin and Mary Shaw Slattenow was born December 30, 1908 in Ontario, IA. She received her education in the Hayfield Schools graduating from High School in 1927. After graduating she worked as a telephone operator.

She was united in marriage with Andrew Janssen in Albert Lea, Minnesota in 1930. The couple made their home in Crystal Lake where she assisted her husband in the Seed Corn Business.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, the United Methodist Women, served as church janitor, and worked with Goodwill.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra and her husband, Tony Buns of Woden, Iowa: a daughter-in-law, Joleen Janssen of California; two grandchildren. David and his wife Martha Buns of Clinton, Iowa, and Wendy and her husband, Clint Jensen of Corwith, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Tucker: a brother, Sanford Slattenow of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, Mable Deibler of Waterloo, Iowa, and Henrietta Cottington of Crystal Lake, Iowa: and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Andrew in 1982; a son, Richard: three brothers, Orre, James and Clifford; a sister, Opal Neimeyer. and a great-grandson, Weston.
