Services for Emmett D. Hoyt, 81, Garner, who died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City, were held Monday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with Pastor Kermit Roisen officiating. A graveside service was held Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner with Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be given in his name to Hospice of North Iowa.

Emmett D. Hoyt, the son of Frank D. and Flora (Ebert) Hoyt, was born March 12, 1913 in Hancock County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Garner. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. He attended Ventura Schools.

July 3, 1934, he married Ruby E. Halfpop at Britt. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past year. They farmed until Emmett's retirement in 1978. He also worked at Urich Implement in Garner for nine years. In 1946, Emmett and Ruby moved to the farm where he was born and still lived there.

Emmett was a director of the country school and a member of the Ventura School Board in the 1950s.

He enjoyed camping and fishing. He and Ruby spent many vacations fishing in Minnesota. Emmett was a family man and enjoyed having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; a son, Robert and his wife, Pat of Garner: a daughter, Dixie Boehnke of Clear Lake; three granddaughters, Twyla. Coe and Melody Coe of Clear Lake and Suzanne Copas and her husband, Tim of Ventura: five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda Coe and Sandra and Sarah Coe of Clear Lake and Krystal Copas of Ventura.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Elsie Frandson in 1994.
