Services for Ted Hinders, 84, of Britt, who died Saturday, Oct. 29, 1994 at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Woden Christian Reformed Church southwest of Woden with Rev. Gerald DeVries as officiant.

Mrs. Mary Ann Van Weelden, organist, will accompany soloist Cary Brown and Paul Tjaden, John Smidt, Harlen Eekhoff and Gerald Redenius, who will sing as a quartet. Ushers will be Ivan Alphs and Albertus Kruger.

Honorary bearers will be Fred Hugo, Forrest Eckels, Jacob DeWaard, Jacob Hulsinga, Ted Kruse and Gerrit DeWaard.

Active bearers will be Steven Eckels, Scott Hawkes, Gale McNeese, Jerry Crahan, Ronald Swanson and Paul Gerdes.

Burial will be in the Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Woden. Visitation was at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden on Tuesday. Nov. 1.

Theodore Hinders, the son of Thomas and Mertie (Pannkuk) Hinders, was born December 17, 1909 on a farm near Wesley. He was baptized at the Ostfreisland Christian Reformed Church (Woden Christian Reformed Church); the church he attended all of his life. At the age of nine, the family moved to the Hinder's farm south of Woden. He attended Bingham Township School #8.

January 27, 1937, he married Irene Mae Reitler at her parents farm home north of Britt. They lived in Woden all of their married life. Ted was a businessman for over 55 years. In 1929 he started a feed and grinding business. In 1949, he began operating the Hinder's Feed & Supply Store in Woden. He sold Funk's "G" Hybrid Seed Corn and Murphy & Nutrena Feed. He was also a state distributor for Fan-Pac Ventilation & Power Generators; a product he showed at the Spencer Fair for 40 years. For 12 years, Ted and Irene were "Snowbirds" going to Texas. Ted always had a special smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He loved his family, great-granddaughters and life. He especially enjoyed gardening.

He was a member of the Woden Christian Reformed Church where he was president of the Men's Society, sang in the choir, was an usher and a Sunday School teacher. He belonged to the Woden Senior Citizens, the Woden Town Band, served on the Woden School Board for six years, was a volunteer fireman for 25 years, a trustee for the Woden Water Works and a past-president and member of the Woden Telephone Company.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Hinders of Woden; four children, Marlyn Hinders and his wife, Marilynn of Aurora, CO, Ronald Hinders and his wife, Grace of Torrance, CA, Jeanette Giddings of Omaha, NE and Terry Hinders and his wife, Sharilyn of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren. Doreen Rominger and her husband, Rob, Michael Hinders and his wife, Christine, Brenda Eckels and her husband, Steven, Michelle Hawkes and her husband, Scott, Joyce Leon and her husband, Cory, Duane Hinders, Jeanne Giddings and Tammi Hinders; two great-granddaughters, Morgan Hawkes and Erin Eckels; two sisters, Gertrude Riggles of Forest City and Mertie Georg and her husband, Ernie of Algona; four brothers, Ben Hinders and his wife, Gladys of Britt, Milton Hinders and his wife, Imogene of Algona, Herman Hinders and his wife, Marion of Worthington, MN and Alvin Hinders and his wife, JoAnn, of Fulton, KY; and a sister-in-law, Ann Hinders of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Hinders, January 19, 1967; his mother, Mertie Hinders, October 10, 1954; two brothers, Martin Hinders and Thomas Hinders; and a son-in-law, Merle Giddings.
