Services held for Mrs. Frank Helvick

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Helvick of Forest City were conducted Monday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. Steven Dornbusch and the Rev. Ole Winter officiated.

Bill Terry was soloist and Norma Boomgarden, organist. Casket bearers were David Hill, James Hill, Steven Hill, Verlyn Eenhuis, Kent Gerdes and Lynn Lovik.

Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Helvick, 83, died Saturday at the Forest City community hospital. She had suffered a stroke Feb. 17.

Adele Helvick, the daughter of Eugene and Ellen Ellingson Hickey, was born Feb. 16, 1900, near Ridgeway. She graduated from high school in Ridgeway, the Waldorf Academy in 1917 and taught school in the Ridgeway area for three years.

June 1, 1921, she was married to Rudd Hill. The couple established their home on a farm west of Forest City and then moved to a farm east of Forest City in 1946. Mr. Hill died Oct. 29, 1954.

In 1955, Adele moved to Forest City where she worked at Harrison's Variety Store, Bowen's Food Center and Danielson's IGA. May 29, 1965, she was married to Frank Helvick.

She was a member of the Mt. Valley U-Go-I-Go Club, the 20th Century Club, Immanuel Lutheran church, the ILCW and ladies circle.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; her children, Mrs. Verne (Eleanor) Lovik and John Hill of Forest City, Mrs. Don (Beverly) Narveson of Waterloo. Rodney Hill of Dumont, David Hill of Leland and Mrs. Bill (Judith) Terry of Iowa City.

Also surviving are her step-children, Donavon Helvick, Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Monson, Virginia Helvick and Mrs. Richard (Janice) Graham, all of Forest City; Mrs. Francis (Bonnie) Kelly of Des Moines, Mrs. Wallace (Shirley) Johnson of Aurora, Colo., Mrs. Wallace (Mavis) Burns of Jefferson City, Mo., and Mrs. Eugene (Kathryn) Lansing of Detroit, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren; and 26 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a grandson, Dennis Lovik, a step-son, Garmon Helvick, three sisters and one brother.
