Services for Mrs. Christena Heyer, 89 of Woden, who died, Saturday, Jan. 6, 1990 at Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Christian Reformed Church in rural Woden with Rev. Gerald DeVries as officiant. Mrs. Clarence Harringa, organist, accompanied, soloist, Mrs. Armin DeWaard.

Casket bearers were grandsons, Stephen Heyer, Michael Heyer, Christopher Heyer, Randy Tweed, Gary Tweed, Terry Tweed and Dennis Heyer.

Burial was in the Christian Reformed Cemetery southwest of Woden. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden.

Mrs. Christena Wilhelmine Heyer, the daughter of Wessell and Sophia (Ascher) Jutting, was born May 4, 1900 at Buffalo Center. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Emmanuel Lutheran Church northwest of Woden. She attended the rural schools of Buffalo Center.

February 7, 1923, she married Henry Heyer in the parsonage of the Christian Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. They farmed in the Buffalo Center, Titonka and Woden area, until they retired in 1951 and moved into Woden. Due to ill health, Christena had resided at the Nora Springs Care Center since 1984.

She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church southwest of Woden and the Woden Birthday Club.

She is survived by her children, Merle Heyer and his wife, Dorothy of Arvada, CO, Mrs. Iris Tweed and her husband, Dean of Marble Rock and Russell Heyer and his wife, Kathleeen of WindLake, WI; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gesina Heyer of Titonka and Mrs. Sue Jutting of Buffalo Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, March 16, 1977; an infant daughter, Lorraine Heyer; her grand-daughter, Mrs. Judene Weiner; her parents; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Wirtjes, Mrs. Tillie Smith, Mrs. Anna Wirtjes; and three brothers, August Jutting, John Jutting and George Jutting.
