Services for Robert B. Hayungs, 52, Garner, who died Wednesday, June 26, 1991 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, were held Friday. June 28, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating.

Music was provided by Ellen Kieschnick, organist, who accompanied, soloist, Brent Cataldo. Ushers were Arnold Steege and Ray Radloff.

Honorary casket bearers were Don Hansen, Bob Ollenburg, Ernist and Ione Hayungs, Larry and Emily Hayungs, Roger and Mary Hayungs and Mrs. Donna Sonquist.

Active bearers were Tommy Rotta, Dan Kadrlik, Kevin Paulson, Dan Ollenburg, Bill Luppen and Scott Ollenburg.

Burial was at the Concord Cemetery in Garner with Cataldo Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Blaine Hayungs, the son of Claus and Thelma (Ackley) Hayungs, was born January 20, 1939 in Floyd County. He received his education in the Garner-Hayfield School system and graduated in 1958. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959.

November 8, 1960, he married Donnitta Standley in West Memphis, AR. The couple lived in various cities and locations around the United States and across the globe. He served as Chief Petty Officer for 20 years before retiring from the Navy in 1979.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. He enjoyed sports and fishing.

Robert is survived by his wife, Donnitta of Garner; a son and his fiance, Scott Hayungs and Sue Rosenbladt of Rochester, MN; a daughter and her husband, Denise and Dave Back of Crystal Lake; his mother, Thelma Hayungs of Garner; three brothers and their wives, Ernist and Ione Hayungs of Clear Lake, Larry and Emily Hayungs of Carterville. IL, and Roger and Mary Hayungs of Rolfe; a sister, Mrs. Donna Sonquist of Harlingen, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
