Services for Mrs. Arlis Gilles, 60, of Garner, who died Tuesday, April 26, 1988 at her home in Garner, were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 29 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Msgr. Roger E. O'Brien as celebrant. Joe Vogel was lector.

Mrs. Ronald Kumsher, organist, accompanied the choir. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Robert Kral.

Honorary bearers were Peter Goodnature, Russel Meier, Bill Gilbert, Darl Schmidt, James Brooks and Gary McCabe. Active bearers were: Peter Engstler, Bill Hiscocks, L.E. "Bud" Schleusner, Ron McCabe, Gary Schisel and Doug McCabe.

Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner where services were conducted by St. Boniface Parish, the Rosary Society and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Mrs. Arlis Jean Gilles, the daughter of John and Karen (Lynd) Rapp was born July 21, 1927 on a farm near Britt. She attended school at Britt. She moved with her family in 1940 to Garner, where she worked at Hull's Cafe for several years.

February 2, 1948, she was married to Wilmer Joseph Gilles at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They owned and operated Gilles Billiards, Inc. After husband's death March 6, 1982, she continued to operate the business.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Garner Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her son, Michael Lee Gilles, and his wife, Dorothy, of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Peggy Ann Gilles of San Diego, CA; 2 grand-daughters, Michelle and Susan; 4 sisters, Mrs. Alice Rayhons and her husband, Leonard, of Garner, Mrs. June Nelson and her husband, Alvin, of Des Moines, Mrs. Shirley Netland of San Antonio, TX and Mrs. Bonnie Ruppert and her husband Francis, of Garner; a brother, John A. Rapp of Thornton, CO; 3 half sisters, Mrs. Mavis Hiscocks, of Britt, Mrs. Mildred Hernon and her husband, Jack, of Clear Lake and Mrs. Elvers Wolfing and her husband, Andrew, of Chicago; 2 half brothers, Milbern Rapp and his wife, Violet, of Britt and Raymond Rapp and his wife, Dorothy, of Lime Springs; 3 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Esther Rapp of Garner, Mrs. Pauline Rapp of Renwick and Mrs. Cindy Rapp of Denver, CO; a close friend, Rosiland Rapp of Dearing, KS and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; her parents; 3 brothers, Harold J. Rapp, Dale Rapp and Calvin Rapp; a sister, Wanda Ann Rapp; 2 half sisters, Mrs. Tom (Thelma) Price and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Hanson.
