William A. Engh
1894-1995

Services for William A. Engh, 101, who died Wednesday, March 29, 1995, at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha, were held Saturday, April 1, 1:30 p.m., at the Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha with Rev. David Lee as officiant.

Music was provided by organist, Bessie Engstrom, and soloist, Vicki Engh. Ushers were Bill Harson and Ed Engstrom.

Casket bearers were Michael Engstrom, Arnold Engh, Monte Engh, Doyce Engh, Robert Harle, Howard Hughes and Keith Engh.

Burial was at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha with wing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

William Arnold Engh, the son of Knute and Emma Larson Engh, was born March 27, 1894 near Morris, IL. In January 1904 he moved with his family to Wright County, Boone Township, near Renwick and attended a rural school. He attended a business college in Humboldt. William was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church and was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.

February 7, 1917, he married Grace Michelson at the Eagle Grove Lutheran parsonage by Dr. H.C. Holm.

He farmed near Renwick and moved to a farm near Kanawha in 1927. He served on the Church Council and Sunday School teacher, was a director of the Kanawha Coop Oil, Farmers Coop Elevator and the Experimental Farm.

He retired from farming in 1962. Grace died in February of 1971. William married Nell McNight in March of 1972. He moved to Newton, IL. Nell passed away in March of 1981. William entered the Nursing Home in Kanawha in July of 1983.

He is survived by sons, Kermit and his wife, Jessie of Grand Junction, CO, Willis and his wife, Arlene of Kanawha; a daughter, Shirley Engstrom of Goldfield: a sister, Ruth RoJohn of Fairport, NY; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; sisters, Anna Gaston and Emma Olson; brothers, John, Emery and Olin; his infant twin sister, Olive, who died in infancy; one son-in-law, Frank Engstrom; and two grandchildren.
