Bud Eenhuis of Garner dies at 64

Services for Alvin "Bud" Eenhuis, 64, of Garner, who died Saturday, March 29, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller with Rev. Emil C. Martinson as officiant.

Mrs. Ronald Anderson, organist, accompanied Pastor and Mrs. Emil Martinson who sang as a duet and also Mrs. Emil Martinson as soloist.

Casketbearers were Robert Wubben, Wayne Wubben, Duane Wubben, Larry Eenhuis, Wayne Eenhuis, and Melvin Eenhuis.

Burial was in Madison Township Cemetery at Forest City with graveside military rites conducted by the Garner Veteran's Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation was held Tuesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Alvin "Bud" Alzo Eenhuis, the son of George and Reka (Blank) Eenhuis, was born August 12, 1921, on a farm, near Kanawha. After attending the rural schools of Erin Township, he farmed north of Garner with his parents for several years.

On March 29, 1941, he married Helen Knapper at First Lutheran Church in Britt. From July 6, 1942, until September 15, 1945, he served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater, receiving three "Bronze Stars" and served under General George Patton.

After returning home, Alvin and his wife, Helen, farmed south of Forest City until 1965. They moved to Garner where he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until he retired in August of 1984.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Miller and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Garner.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Jerry and his wife, Glenda, of Billings, Mt., and Terry of Garner; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; his brothers and sisters: Menno and his wife, Mathilda, of Garner, Mrs. George (Elsie) Abbas of Goldfield, Mrs. Dick (Grace) Katuin of Kanawha. John and his wife, Lida, of Klemme, Louis and his wife, Alva, of Forest City, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Arlan (Amelia) Kyhl of Britt, Mrs. Joe (Hazel) King of Mason City, and Mrs. Geraldine Eenhuis of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Eenhuis in 1969; his grandson, Jon Cristopher Eenhuis in 1965; his parents, and three brothers: Frank, Fred and George.
