Services for Mabel S. Askland, 91, Forest City, who died Sunday, April 29, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, were held Tuesday, May 1, 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Miller with Pastor Linda Johnson, Pastor Steven Lomen and Rev. George Hoaglund officiating.

Music was provided by Miriam Rogness, soloist; John Arthur, soloist; the congregation; and organist, Nancy Anderson.

Casket bearers were Harold Hall, William Short, Merle Hall, Alvin Schroeder, Ronald Rice and John Torkelson.

Burial was at Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery in Miller with Petersen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mabel S. Askland, the daughter of Cornelius and Bertha Hall, was born February 7, 1899 on a farm near Williams. When she was an infant, she was given a home by distant relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Nels K. Hill, also of Williams. When she was two years of age her foster parents moved to Jewell where she received her education.

During her early years she worked in the homes of many families.

March 2, 1930, she married Henry J. Askland at the home of a family friend, Rev. H.O. Hendrickson of Humboldt. The Askland's farmed near Jewell until moving to a farm near Miller in 1945. Mr. Askland died February 11, 1978.

Mabel has been a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Miller and since moving to Forest City in 1978, took part in the ladies organizations activities of Trinity Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

February 22, 1990, she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Mabel is survived by several distant relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her foster parents; a sister, Cora Hall; and two brothers, Kernel Hall and Bennie M. Hall; and her husband.
