Hilda Assink of Kanawha dies at 84

Funeral services for Hilda Assink, 84, of Kanawha, were held in the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. The services were conducted by Rev. Bert Den Herder.

Doug Rietema, accompanied by organist Marilyn DeKruff sang "Under His Wings" and "Amazing Grace". Ushers were Dean Smidt and Jim Trenary.

Casket bearers were Henry Christians, John Schreur, Clarence Abbas, Alfred Assink, Herman Eekhoff and Harry Peters.

Burial was in Amsterdam Twp. Cemetery, Kanawha, with the Carter-Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hilda Assink, daughter of Harm and Trientje Siemens Eekhoff, passed away Saturday morning, May 9, at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since September 22, 1975.

She was born June 27, 1896 in Wright County near Kanawha, and she was 84 years, ten months and 11 days of age at the time of her death.

Hilda was baptized and made profession of faith in the Christian Faith and was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, had taught Sunday School and also served as Church Organist. Her education was received in the rural schools near Kanawha.

She was married to Edward Assink on January 20, 1916 in Kanawha. They farmed in Wright County from 1934 to 1949, when they retired and moved to Kanawha.

She is survived by three sons, Henry Assink and his wife Ada of Kanawha; Harold Assink and his wife Nettie of Kanawha; and Paul Assink and his wife Dorothy of Palos Heights, Ill.; one daughter, Ruth Veldhouse of Eau Claire, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Roskamp of Putlook, Wash. and Mrs. Mary Roskamp of Cedar Falls many relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward July 9, 1969; two sisters; one brother and one son-in-law.
