Former resident dies at 100

Garner - Elsie Schauland, 100, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Garner, died Friday (Nov. 24, 1989) at the Hallmark Nursing Center, Omaha, of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, northeast of Garner with the Rev. Reynold Petersen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will [be] after 1 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

She was born May 9, 1889, in Joliet, Ill., a daughter of Fredrick and Hannah (Hollatz) Reinhardt. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm in Cerro Gordo County, northwest of Ventura. She attended St. John's parochial school.

She married Leo Schauland May 7, 1909, at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed northeast of Ventura and southeast of Clear Lake until 1969 when they retired and moved into Clear Lake. He died in 1974. In 1979, she moved to the Prairie View Apartments where she lived for five years. She then lived with her daughter, Doris, in Michigan, and for the past five years she had lived with her daughter, Laurine, in Omaha.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurine Kritenbrink, Omaha, and Doris Schaffer, Dundee, Mich,; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, one granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers.
