Funeral Services Held For F. W. Schauland, 95

Ventura: Funeral services for Fredrick William Schauland, 95, who died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. W. Thompson, after a short illness, were held Sunday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church. A short prayer service was held at the home preceding.

Rev. W. T. Wolfram conducted the services and burial was in St. John's cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Schauland, Edward Schultz, Charles Schultz, Albert Lake, Frank Tienan and Martin Boehnke. St. John's choir sang, "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me". Marilyn Boehnke sang a solo "Face to Face".

Mr. Schauland, the eldest son of the family was born Feb. 5, 1850, in Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a small boy. In 1868 he came to America and settled in Wisconsin where he was married to Mathilda Bahr who died Feb. 11, 1917. Nine children were born to this union, five of whom preceded him in death. Left to mourn are one son, Leo of Clear Lake, three daughters; Minnie Boehnke, Ann Schauland Meyers, Emma Thompson of Ventura, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Schauland was very active for a man of his age and until a week or so before his death was seen about his home doing the small chores that he want to do, and his death will be felt very keenly in the community.

Relatives from a distance attending the services include, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schauland and Billy of Waterbury, Neb.; Walter and Clara Schauland, Joliet, Ill.; Mrs. Martha Schauland, Papillion, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Musfelt, Clarion; Mrs. Fred Willodson, St. Paul; Mrs. Emma Underwood and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Schultz, Chicago; Edward Schultz, Osgow, Canada; Mr. and Mrs. A. Carsons, Alitza Matuza, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Manuel, Mr. and Mrs. J. Geistlinger, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Grell and Mr. and Mrs. Grover Seeburger of Mason City.

Aged Ventura Resident Dies

Fred Schauland, 95, Lived With Daughter

Ventura - Fred Schauland, 95, died Wednesday at 1:15 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Thompson. The Bohn funeral home of Garner is in charge.

Mr. Schauland was born Feb. 5, 1850, near New Stettin, Germany, and came to this country when he was 21 years of age. He settled near Joliet, Ill., and was married to Matilda Bahr. Nine children were born to this union, 5 of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Schauland died 28 years ago.

Mr. Schauland was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a young man and was a member of St. John's Lutheran church near Ventura.

Surviving are one son, Leo Schauland of Clear Lake, and 3 daughters, Mrs. Minnie Boehnke, Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Marcela Meyers.
