April 13, 1915 - September 27, 2011

Cornelia Scheibel, 96, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services for Cornelia Scheibel will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 pm at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Cornelia was born on April 13, 1915 to John and Hanna (Sweers) Brouwer in Wright County near Kanawha, Iowa. She attended school in Orthel Township in Hancock County. Cornelia was baptized in the Christian faith at an early age.

On November 28, 1935, Cornelia married Rudolf Scheibel at his sister Mrs. Harm Freeseman’s home. They moved to and started farming on the late Mrs. E.A. Couper’s farm, north of Hutchins, where they raised their three children: Kenneth Ray, Janice Mae, and Rudy Carl. They lived there for 26 years. In 1961, they moved to a farm near Forest City and in 1967, they retired and made their home in Britt. In 2002, Cornelia moved to an apartment in Britt.

Cornelia was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Britt and was also a member of F.C.W.M. She worked at the Britt nursing home for 20 years. Cornelia loved her family, crocheting and all kinds of needlework, and working with her flowers.

Cornelia is survived by her three children: Kenneth (Donna) Scheibel of Clear Lake, Janice (Marvin “Pete”) Cook of Britt, and Rudy (Bonnie) Scheibel of Forest City; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Esther Rapp of Garner, Tena Cook of Kanawha, Helen Shipp of Waterloo, and Norma (Kay) Schuver of Bemidji, Minnesota; two brothers: Harold Brouwer of Waterloo, and John (Mary) Brouwer of Waterloo; sister-in-law Jennie Brouwer of Britt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rudolf on May 13, 1969; her parents; two brothers: Phillip Brouwer and Jake Brouwer, one sister-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
